Supreme Court to review Voting Rights Act

gty_supreme_court_jp_120927_wg

Less than a week after President Barack Obama won reelection with overwhelming support from African American and Hispanic voters, the Supreme Court announced on Friday that it would review a key provision of the 1965 Voting Rights Act (VRA). The case, Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder, presents a constitutional challenge to Section 5 of the VRA, which dictates that states with a previous history of voter discrimination must obtain federal approval before making any changes to the way they hold elections. The provision currently affects 16 states, many of which are in the Deep South. President Lyndon Johnson originally passed…

Iran is Beating its War Drums

Ever since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was elected President of Iran in 2005, he has vowed to wipe Israel off the map.  He is also in the process of developing nucelar weapons.  Thus, it is clear Ahmadinejad (I sometimes refer to him as a hillbilly) wants to nuke Israel. But how can one be sure that Israel is the only nation he wants to wipe off the map?  Suppose he decides to nuke the United States, or any other nation on Earth for that matter.  After all, he feels the time of the Mahdi is near (i.e. the Muslim Apocalypse), so he…

Islam and the United States: A Case for American Involvement in Yemen

Not all participants in the religion of Islam are “extremists” just as there are different blanches and facets of Christianity. In light of the anniversary of September 11th, embassy attacks and protests in Yemen, and Ambassador Christopher Stevens death it is important to not lose sight of tolerance and understanding as to not lump all participants of Islam as radical extremists. In retrospect, the recent events pose a clear and present threat to American interests and security abroad and potentially domestically. In Yemen AQAP, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, has been gaining a strong foothold in the southern region…

The Honey Badger Syndrome

“Honey badger don’t care.  Honey badger don’t give a s**t.” That is how Randall describes the honey badger in his infamous youtube video. The same can be said about any leftist.  They really don’t care. Take the Occupy Wall Street movement for instance.  They camp out in the parks, practically take over various neighborhoods, and leave behind a filthy mess.   They vandalize local businesses, commit acts of violence, and destroy property.  But guess what?  They don’t care. Barrack Obama is another example.  He hardly seems to take interest in what other people think about his policies.  He tries to blame and/or…

Woman in Red: Ann Romney

Regally, she made quite the appearance in her tasteful red dress accentuated with simple black pumps.  Ann Romney made a striking image, but it was her  message that captured the hearts of many Americans as she stood on that stage at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night . One thing the Romney campaign has struggled is replacing the corporate Romney with the image of a family man. Ann did wonders in creating that image with her speech.  She spoke of their love story (constantly referencing “that boy I met at a high school dance”), their early marriage, and lifelong…

Economic Terrorism: A Case for Military Intervention in Iran

Economic terrorism is a new battlefield emerging as a general means of engaging another nation in “conflict” without starting a “hot” war or engagement. Most would reference China and their trade policies and currency manipulation that uniquely impacts the United States by way of unemployment, international competition, and an unfair advantage in exporting goods and services. With an ever present risk for a double dip recession in the United States and no economic silver bullet likely to emerge till at the very earliest November, the United States is at a tipping point and primed for economic disaster, citing issues such…

The Defense Budget: An Out of Control Federal Eyesore

Listen to a Mitt Romney political sound bite from the campaign so far and you are almost guaranteed to hear a reference about lowering our national debt. However, it is very hard to lower our country’s debt when Mr. Romney’s attitude to our national defense is “strength in numbers.” Although this type of attitude to defense spending may resonate with conservatives and some independents, this message is just more political rhetoric and this kind of out of control spending is the exact opposite of what needs to occur to control our out of control debt.. This type of policy only…

The Supreme Court ruling and Arizona: NObama 2012

Obama-immigration

The Supreme Court ruling against Arizona’s Immigration Laws only adds more reasons to limit the Obama administration to one term in office. With all the commotion over the Supreme Court’s ruling of Obama Care, many have overlooked another case the Court ruled on last week which will have just as much effect on our nation’s future as Obama Care will. The ruling by the Court to strike down three of the four parts of the Arizona vs. United States was a huge blow in the ability of state’s to enact laws due to the federal government’s lack there of. The…
