A Question of Conscience
With the dawning of another four-year term for President Obama comes the realization that the secular stranglehold on our society is increasing. This is clearly visible in the dwindling number of conservatives overall, but especially self-described conservative Christians. (This is without mentioning the decreasing number of those who identify themselves as Republicans, for Republicans and conservatives are not one and the same.) In a broad sense, there is a decrease even among those who identify themselves as ‘religious.’ According to an October 9, 2012 release by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life: “The number of Americans who do…
The GOP’s Missing Voter: Hispanics
Despite four years of lackluster economic recovery, rampant cronyism, expansion of the welfare state, and bipartisan dissatisfaction with Washington, a majority of Americans decided on Tuesday that they want more of the same. The uninspiring status quo, which has inhabited Washington for far too long, will continue to survive. Meanwhile, the United States’ future prosperity—not the GOP—will prove to be the real loser of this week’s election. As a Libertarian, I will be the first to admit that Mitt Romney was not the ideal free-market candidate, but there is no doubt that his vision for the nation was strikingly different…
Obama bashes corporate welfare — ignores the one-year anniversary of Solyndra’s bankruptcy
Obama drew scorn from Republicans on Thursday when he targeted “corporate welfare” and oil companies during his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, which also happened to be the one-year anniversary of Solyndra’s bankruptcy. “Unlike my opponent, I will not let oil companies write this country’s energy plan, or endanger our coastlines, or collect another $4 billion in corporate welfare from our taxpayers,’’ said President Obama. Republicans quickly responded to the President’s hypocritical statements by releasing a scathing video detailing the Obama administration’s conflict-ridden “investment” (aka corporate welfare) in Solyndra. Once heralded by President Obama as a shining example…
The China Trade Debate: A Criticism of Election Politics
Publicly bashing China is always, and probably will continue to be, a very politically beneficial tactic used on either side of the election spectrum as November gets closer. Shifting the blame to a foreign power always rings true with both protectionist and nationalist factions of either major political party while simultaneously absolving all politicians on either side. It would be a curious endeavor to see if Chinese politicians bash America and whether or not they simply rinse and repeat the cycle every election season. Regardless, both parties policies toward China and international trade as a whole appear to be quite contradictory to…
The Honey Badger Syndrome
“Honey badger don’t care. Honey badger don’t give a s**t.” That is how Randall describes the honey badger in his infamous youtube video. The same can be said about any leftist. They really don’t care. Take the Occupy Wall Street movement for instance. They camp out in the parks, practically take over various neighborhoods, and leave behind a filthy mess. They vandalize local businesses, commit acts of violence, and destroy property. But guess what? They don’t care. Barrack Obama is another example. He hardly seems to take interest in what other people think about his policies. He tries to blame and/or…
Why RNC – Ron Paul tensions are more than just high school drama
While Isaac churns in the Gulf of Mexico, another storm has been making waves at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, this week. Tensions between Romney supporters and Ron Paul’s camp fully erupted in an all out shouting match during the state-by-state delegate vote on Tuesday, as Republican leaders refused to seat Paul’s delegates from Maine. To cap off the delegate drama, Ron Paul seems to have made it clear that he will not openly endorse Romney for President leading into the general election, which has deepened feelings of ill will on both sides. While some may be quick to dismiss…
Campus Free Speech
As students get closer to the start of another semester of college and planning their fall activism events, an important topic to focus on is that of free speech. We have seen recently how free speech can come under attack through the Chick-Fil-A situation and mayors saying they will ban the business from building in their cities, a direct violation of First Amendment rights. HR 347, the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act, passed the House of Representatives on March 8th of this year and establishes “Free Speech Zones” in the vicinity of certain areas. This was a bill…
The Media vs. the 2012 GOP Nominee
We all know the media will beat up the VP nominee. Let’s fight back.
